Yes, walk-ups are welcome. However, we highly recommend booking in advance to guarantee the date and time that you prefer.
-
We want all of our tours to run smoothly, so it is important that we start on time so that the next tour does not have to wait. Late arrivals risk losing their time slot.
-
If you would like to reserve a weekend tour time, we recommend that you call as soon as possible. Overall, we have a great deal of flexibility. Give us a call or book online!
-
We offer Segway tours year-round, 7 days a week. Tours typically begin at 9am, 11am,1pm, 3pm, and 6pm.
-
All participants must be at least 100 pounds, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old. For those concerned about being older and riding a Segway, many of our tour participants are 55+ – we’ve even had folks in their 70’s and 80’s ride and have a blast!
-
Participants need to be at least 100 lbs. and not more than 280 pounds. This is so that the computer in the base of the Segway can read and respond to your body movements.
-
We do ask that all participants be able to stand for long periods, walk a substantial distance unaided, and be able to go up and down stairs unaided. Charlotte NC Tours, Greenville Glides, and New Bern Segway Tours are NOT able to accommodate riders who have neurological impairments or other medical conditions that would limit their ability to ride safely and respond quickly to conditions that may arise while they are on their Segway.
-
If you are pregnant we ask that you tell us. We do not allow pregnant women or people with fainting or seizure disorders to ride the Segways.
-
Riding a Segway really is as easy (and fun!) as it looks! Most people are comfortable maneuvering the Segway on their own within 5-10 minutes of the one-on-one training before tours depart.
One of our trained guides will instruct you one-on-one and stay with you until you feel confident and ready to go. For your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you listen CAREFULLY and follow ALL instructions from your guide. They know the routes well and will lead you safely through your tour.
-
All of our Segway tours are led by a guide for the duration of the tour. Most of the tour routes are along the sidewalks and paths. Your tour guide will safely lead you and advise your group of any obstacles to look out for along the way.
-
Segways can go up to 12 MPH -” which is rather fast when moving among pedestrians. On your tour, however, you will not be going that fast in order to ensure the safety of the riders and pedestrians.
Not to be a buzz-kill, but if your guide sees anyone speeding, being reckless, or unsafe on the Segways, he/she may have to put your Segway in SAFETY MODE for the duration of the tour.
-
We have a thorough description of each tour offered on the “Tours” tab. If you have any further questions, give us a call. We want you to enjoy your tour so if you have specific requests, just let us know!
-
Everyone is different, but riding a Segway does take some physical effort. You will need the energy to stand and maneuver the Segway for the duration of the tour. Be sure to wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes.
-
Greenville Glides is the real deal. We are a REAL licensed, insured, & registered LLC with offices in Center City Charlotte, New Bern, and Greenville. Our guides are trained professionals that have led hundreds of tours. Charlotte NC Tours is a member of Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
-
We require that all tour participants sign a liability waiver and a “declaration of fitness” statement before beginning their training. We require that you wear a helmet and stay with your group for the duration of the entire tour.
-
We recommend closed-toe, flat shoes. This will not only keep you safe but also comfortable!
On spring and fall days, we recommend that you dress in layers just to be prepared for any temperature swings. We also ask that you remove all caps during the tour so that your helmet is situated correctly on your head -” but, sunglasses are always a good idea. -
Riders who are under the influence of any illegal substance or alcohol are not allowed to operate a Segway. If we feel that a rider’s judgment is impaired, our guides reserve the right to cancel your party’s reservation upon arrival or end the tour at any point. In these instances, no refunds will be given to any person in the party.
-
If there is a need to reschedule or cancel your tour due to rain or other inclement weather, we will contact you.
-
Most Segway tours would ask that you go out in the rain, but we prefer to stay dry as well.
-
Yes, we do tours in hot and cold weather -” that’s just the nature of the south. When it’s cooler, layer up and consider a wind-resistant jacket since the movement on a Segway creates a slight wind chill factor.
On warmer days, we try to use shady routes as much as possible and provide participants with cold bottled water. You will want to dress appropriately for the heat, but please remember that for safety, we still advise only flat, closed-toed shoes be worn.
-
YES! YES! YES! You will have fun and the guide may even have to pry the Segway out of your hands at the end of the tour. Should that be the case, please remember that you can always do another tour and bring along more friends to let them in on the fun!
-
Of course! Gift certificates are available for any of our tour offerings. They make wonderful and unique gifts and thoughtful surprises for the special ones in your life! Credit card payment is accepted over the phone and we can send the gift certificates wherever you would like.
-
At the end of your tour, each participant may tip your guide. Our guides really enjoy meeting new people and showing them around the same as they would their own visiting family. If you enjoyed your experience, please be sure to let your guide know!
-
We can handle groups of any size! Large groups do require extra preparation, so please contact us as soon as possible if your group will include over 10 people. For groups with 10 or more participants, a 15% gratuity for our guides is added.
-
Given how fun it is to ride a Segway, we understand if that is just exactly what you want to do! Our guides tailor each tour to our guests’ wants and needs. If you want to hear all of the interesting facts about the area and some of it’s history, we got ’em; if you just want to ride around on an amazingly fun toy and see cool stuff, that’s what we will do!

A Segway Human Transporter is an electrically powered personal transportation device. Thanks to dynamic stabilization technology, which uses high-tech gyroscopes and sensors, a Segway stays balanced by responding to your body’s movements. Because of its small size, a Segway can go almost anywhere people can go.
-
When you step on a Segway, you will realize that it is balancing for you. It moves in response to your movements. To move forward, just lean slightly forward. To move backward, lean slightly backward. To turn left or right, simply move the Segway’s steering grip left or right. You will feel a sense of power and speed, but you will also maintain a feeling of safety and control. Segway’s technology will keep you upright during any movement.
-
A great deal of research has gone into ensuring the Segway will provide a safe experience when used appropriately. The Segway has also been evaluated by four independent agencies for safety. When used appropriately, a Segway will provide a safe and enjoyable ride.
